Course Description

Develop your animation skills

Students will learn some of the 12 Principles of Animation Arcs, Squash and Stetch, Slow In and Slow Out. 

What we'll cover

Flick book

  • Develop a flick book. 


  • Animating with Photoshop – taking the flick book idea and making it digital.

  • Learn to set up a Photoshop document.

  • Identify what a pixel is and their importance.

  • Use simple Photoshop tools.

  • Discover the significance of Layers.

  • Produce an animated sequence converting Layers to Frames.

Character Design

  • Develop a character using simple shapes and lines.

  • Consider how the character will Appeal to an audience.

  • Work with Vector and Bitmap graphics.

Bringing your character to life

  • Animating a walk cycle in Photoshop.
  • Covering the Pose to Pose animation principle bring the character to life.
  • Adding Secondary Action to the walk cycle.


  • Learn how to export the animation as a GIF and a MP4

What you’ll learn

You’ll develop your understanding of what it means to make animation.  You’ll deepen your existing practice and broaden it with new skills and techniques.  You’ll learn more about yourself, your specialisms and your inspirations, and you’ll grow in confidence.
